THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS

THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS(LBD)

More than any piece of clothing, the little black dress is definitely essential and the one piece item that will take you from day to night and practically anywhere.
It can go from the work place to an evening event or a simple night out with the girls with an effortless addition of accessories.

Little Black Dresses are always in style and are timeless, classic, chic and seasonless.
They come in a variety of fabrics – cotton, silk, chiffon, sequins and lace to mention a few.
Its a timeless trend because its cool, fresh and above all easy to accessorize so what’s not to love about it?
The LBD(as stylists/fashionistas call it) has been in the fashion books for years/decades now and its always a hit for anyone rocking it.

How to wear a Litte Black Dress :-

With Jackets:-
Throwing on a plum jacket will most definitely add some seriousness to your outfit which will make it perfect for an interview or work.

With Shoes:-
You can pair it up with a pair of pumps to give it a formal look for work or with flats to hit the mall for a laid back look or with a pair of girly metallic strappy sandals for the red carpet or a night out with the girls.

With Accessories:-
A simple necklace and earrings for the workplace so as not to look too dressed up or chunky statement neckpiece and a lovely bracelet for a date night.

With Colours:-
A LBD is like an empty space waiting to be worked on so don’t be afraid to add a bit of colour here and there.
Add a splash of colour with a colourful blazer, belt, neckpiece, brooch, earrings, clutch or shoes(I don’t mean all at once so we don’t look like we going for a carnival) .
If you are fearless enough, you can go all black but you don’t want to overdo it so its not mistaken for a funeral outfit and if you do decide to go all-black inject some colour with your nail polish or your lipstick and that will just about brighten it up.. You can also pair it up with a lovely set of white pumps and white thin belt to give it a monochrome look.

To make a dramatic change from a work outfit to an evening outfit, take off your jacket, switch your black pumps for a pair of gold slingbacks and your black tote for a gold clutch and you are set to go (do not forget your bright coloured lipstick 😉 ).

So go all out looking fab in your Little Black Dress !!!

In any way you want to put your outfit together, always remember that beauty lies in simplicity and there certainly exists a thin line between tacky and classy.

A big thank you to everyone who sent in their pictures for this article…it was also sent in to a magazine(I won’t tell you yet)

BACKLESS or MORE

Halloo everyone, yeah I know its been a while and am sure you are all prolly tired of reading that…all I can say is am ready to keep up with updating this blog now #girlsguidehonor 😀

Well let’s just say, this is very important and as we all know,no info is too much info,so I’ll appreciate it if we can all drop our comments on this topic.

I was at the supermarket with my son(and by the way,he’s just the cutest boy) when I ran into a lady looking all gorgeous and onpoint…was still thinking of how to throw a compliment her way when she turned at the voice of her guy (well I fink) and OMG was I shocked at what I saw!!! The dress she had on was a backless dress and all I could see was the black bra and sm back fat resting peacefully on the flap…all I could do was thank God I hadn’t said a word cos I sure was disappointed.

Anyway, this got me thinking of this topic and thought to share my widows mite.

In my opinion I think that a backless dress is a lot sexier than one that shows off a whole lot of cleavage. But then again I’m a huge fan of bone structure and a dress without a back shows off shoulder blades while leaving enough to the imagination to make you wonder about just what really is lying under that dress. Here are a few tips on how to wear a backless dress to keep them guessing.

Don’t Go Too Low- A backless dress already has pow appeal so there’s no need for the seam to plunge down to your you-know-what. Once you cross that line you’re in danger of looking trashy rather than sexy so be sure to keep it classy.

Wear The Right Bra- If you need to wear a bra then be sure to wear the right kind. I recommend using the stick on bras that many department stores sell. The stick-ons provide some support while taking on the shape of your breasts so that you get a natural look. If your dress has a bit more fabric then you can opt for a bra with a low back or a corset type bra. They’ll provide the support that you need while keeping you comfortable.

Use Sticky Tape- You should definitely invest in some double sided tape to keep things where they belong. This way you won’t have to worry about what kind of view anyone is getting if they’re sitting beside you and happen to look down.

Don’t Forget To Accessorize- The accessories that you use to accent your dress should complement rather than overpower your look. Normally, wearing a ring and bracelets is enough to keep this look so striking that you won’t miss the necklace.

Watch The Hair- An updo is ideal when wearing a backless dress because it shows off your back. However, if you want to leave your hair down then be sure to pull your locks over to the side. It makes no sense to wear a backless dress if you’re going to hide your back.

Stand Up Straight- Good posture is important in general but in this case it can make or break your look. It makes you appear to look longer, leaner and better. If you have trouble with keeping your back straight then try to put on your favorite heels because they should automatically help you in this department a great deal so that you can focus on other things.

Now go out and be sexy!! 😉

Note: Backless dresses are not meant for everyone especially some of us who have got thick backs or spots….pls stay off backless dresses completely so you don’t end up looking tacky and silly.

Wedding Planning stress

I remember my planning process some years back. I had some good days but I can’t lie I had some major stressful ones.!
Not with the fact that I had 10 bridesmaids or with my mum calling every minute over a particular detail that needed to be sorted out plus my hubby jetting out of the country to arrive a day before the wedding… Oh trust me,I had it all..
So I took a chill pill on a needed basis, lol. My chill pill came in different forms, here are a few;

1. Pray for direction
2. Start planning early
3. Listen to music
4. Delegate – trust me u can’t do it all alone,no matter how much you wish you can.
5. Take a nap to clear my head
6. Spend wisely.
7. Talk to fellow Brides who could understand
8. Take a step back and realize marrying my husband should be my major goal and success!

PS: Whatever you do, do not take a real pill under CECILI’s prescription. Please see a real doctor for that 🙂

Through a rapist’s eyes

Hey friends,
So sorry its been a while I posted something up here….Been so busy with a lot and well thats the life of a fashion designer,mother,wife,daughter,daughter-in law, sister and friend….just so much going on and as u well know you can’t be found wanting in any.*sighs*

Was going through my facebook page and found this write up and thought to share. The part that caught my attention the most was about ladies with long hair. Lmao.
Anyway, lemme let you read up yourselves….

A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts:

1] The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun! , braid, or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.

2] The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women who’s clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing.

3] They also look for women using their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered.

4] The number one place women are abducted from / attacked at is grocery store parking lots.

5] Number two is office parking lots/garages.

6] Number three is public restrooms.

7] The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a second location where they don’t have to worry about getting caught.

8] If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn’t worth it because it will be time-consuming.

9] These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas,or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands.

10] Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys you’re not worth it.

POINTS THAT WE SHOULD REMEMBER:

1] If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk: can’t believe it is so cold out here, we’re in for a bad winter. Now that you’ve seen their faces and could identify them in a line- up, you lose appeal as a target.

2] If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said they’d leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.

3] If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes,) yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent.

4] If someone grabs you, you can’t beat them with strength but you can do it by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh – HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it really hurts.

5] After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy’s parts it is extremely painful. You might think that you’ll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause him a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and he’s out of there.

6] When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly.

7] Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, don’t dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel little silly at the time, but you’d feel much worse if the guy really was trouble.

FINALLY, PLEASE REMEMBER THESE AS WELL
.

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do it.

2. Learned this from a tourist guide to New Orleans : if a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you
. chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won’t see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON’T DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU CLOSE the DOORS , LEAVE.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:

a. Be aware: look around your car as someone may be hiding at the passenger side , peek into your car, inside the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. ( DO THIS TOO BEFORE RIDING A TAXI CAB) .

b. If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.

c. Look at the car parked on the driver’s side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked “for help” into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it’s better safe than sorry.

If u have compassion reblog this post.
‘Helping hands are better than Praying Lips’ – give us your helping hand.

REBLOG THIS AND LET EVERY GIRL KNOW
ATLEAST PEOPLE WILL KNOW WATS GOING IN THIS WORLD.

THIS COULD ACTUALLY SAVE A LIFE.

Fashionably Married

A friend sent me this write-up some months back, I came across it today and decided to share it with my loyal readers.

(1) Find the right person: If you are single, you don’t want to ‘mis-marry’. Compromise will only hurt in the end.
If you are married, you have found the right one already;) . If you don’t like what you found, you simply have work to do

(2) Be open to each other: Every time you cover up now, something will stink in the future

(3) Be honest with your spouse: This includes saying what is true but not palatable. Of course, say it in a way that builds & not in a derogatory way

(4) Carry your spouse along in the implementation of your dreams. He/she is equipped to support you through the high and low times

(5) Make out time for your spouse: No matter how busy you get, he/she comes first and then others follow

(6) Be quick to forgive: Absorbed anger is poison you cook to eat alone and die alone. Remember, its the action you disapprove of not the person

(7) Be Committed: through all challenges, all temptations, all disagreements… keep telling yourself it will work cause you have made up your mind that it will.

Just say it

Just say it

Posted from WordPress for BlackBerry.

Am sorry: Most people find it really hard to say those two words and all it does is make a difficult situation easily solved…we all know its hard to give in on those heated arguments but really it won’t take out a strand of hair on our heads. So let’s adopt the act of saying “Am Sorry” even when we are very sure we are right.

And lastly,
Always look good…no man wants to come home to a wife with wrapper tied on her breast. I was soo guilty of this till I gained wisdom (X_X loool).. Be sure to make your hair, dress well and stay fit…If u aint sure of how to go about this that’s why we are here..let’s hook u up with a look or two 😉

When your mind says give up, hope whispers one more try.

Made in Nigeria

Cecili Bag (Made in Nigeria)

Cecili Bag (Made in Nigeria)

A thought crossed my mind some few weeks back and I already shared it with a group of designers but thought to share it with you my dear readers as well.

Why would Nigerians rather patronize international brands than our own Nigerian brands even when we deliver as good or even better products.
I was discussing with a client who said she loves Nigerian designs but won’t buy them cos they are too expensive and she gave an example of tops/blouses she buys in the uk which go for between the range of N1500 and N3000 only for her to get here and find Nigerian products at higher rates..

How do we handle these issues, that is,how do we give you the best of quality and yet sell at affordable prices??

Here are some answers I could come up with for now:

Electricity: In most countries, they have electricity 24/7 and here in Nigeria we rarely have power for 4hours non-stop. We have to run a generating set the whole day and as we know fuel is now gold in a country that produces it 😩 We spend close to N2000 to N4000 per day on fuel just to meet up with our lovely clients orders.
Please let’s appeal to our government to give us the electricity they’ve been promising us for years 😩

Fabrics/Materials: The rate at which fabrics and materials are expensive now is crazyyyyy and for some of us who want to give our clients the very best have to go for expensive fabrics at all cost. Some of us even go the extra length as traveling out of the country to get quality fabrics in large quantity.
If only we have more companies producing fabrics here in Nigeria but am sure we’ll get there very soon.

If you’ve got more answers on ways to solve this issue at hand kindly drop your comments.

Finally, let’s be proud of our own and patronize our Nigerian designers 🙂

Its all about fashion and all that comes with it 😉
